First Aid in the Workplace: COVID-19 Update

“In the event that first aid is required in the workplace it may not be possible to maintain a distance of 2 metres. Workers with a specific role in acting as first responders should be provided with updated training on infection prevention and control principles including performance of hand hygiene and appropriate use of personal protective equipment when delivering first aid.”

This online training update is designed to equip first-aiders with best practice on how to provide first aid during COVID-19 while reducing risk of COVID-19 spread as a result of first aid.

This course is designed for existing occupational first-aiders, first-aiders and community responders.

Course Objectives

This online training update is designed to equip first-aiders with best practice on how to provide first aid during COVID-19 while reducing risk of COVID-19 spread as a result of first aid.

This course is designed for existing occupational first-aiders, first-aiders and community responders.

This course is an update and is NOT a first aid refresher course.

Course Topics

On completion of this training participant will able to:

  • Explain the term COVID-19 (SARS NCOV2)
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of COVID-19
  • Explain how COVID-19 infection may spread from person to person.
  • Demonstrate hand hygiene techniques and list the circumstances in which hand hygiene should be performed.
  • Demonstrate respiratory hygiene, cough and sneezing etiquette.
  • Understand social distancing
  • Understand the importance of cleaning.
  • Describe how first-aiders can break the COVID-19 chain of infection.
  • Demonstrate how to correctly use, remove and dispose of PPE.
  • Understand the modifications to providing Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for a patient in cardiac arrest.

Certification

On successful competition of the First Aid in the Workplace: COVID-19 Update course participants will receive a  Certificate of Completion.

COVID-19 health advice and guidance can change as the situation unfolds. We highly recommend all employers and participants regularly monitor official health advice and update their procedures accordingly,

This course is intended for existing first-aiders.
