Mobile Elevated Work Platforms – Accredited Certificate

This Accredited Mobile Elevated Work Platforms operator training is also referred to as MEWP operator training and Cherry Picker training .

This course is designed to give the participants the skill and knowledge required to operate an MEWP safely and effectively.

On competition of this course participants will receive an Accredited Certificate which is suitable for MEWP operators in the Republic of Ireland and UK.  If you are not a contractor or working in the UK you may also be interested in our House Certificate MEWP training course.

Available as a Public Course

  • Our standard MEWP operator course covers Scissor Lift (3a)  and Self Propelled Boom (3b)
  • However, we can provide training on:
    • Scissor Lift (3a)
      – Vertical machines
    • Self Propelled Boom (3b)
      – Self-propelled booms and may be articulated or telescopic booms and can be driven at height.
    • Static Booms (Ib)
      – Machines which are generally fitted with outriggers and cannot be driven while elevated.
      – Static boom is an overall category name which includes van-mounted booms, truck-mounted booms, trailer-mounted booms or spider booms on tracks or wheels.
  • Please note for public courses, training on Ib Static Booms will depend on the availability of the machine.
  • The participant must be trained on each category they wish to appear on their certificate.

Legislation
The legal provisions governing MEWPs are contained in the:
• Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005,
• Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 (particularly Chapter 2-Use of Work Equipment and Part 4-Work at Height),
• European Communities (Machinery) Regulations 2008 [S.I.No.407 of 2008], and
• Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013

Participants

A maximum of 4 participants can attend each Accredited MEWP operator training session.

Duration

Accredited MEWP training sessions are usually a 1-day in duration if 2 machines are being taught, e.g. scissors and boom.

However, public courses can vary  in duration.

Certification

On successful competition of the Accredited MEWP operator course participants will receive an Accredited Certificate. The certification will expire after 5-years.

Renewal

Participants are required to renew their training by completing the course again. Renewals should happen before the certification expires, or sooner if indicated by their company’s risk assessment.

Course Entry Requirements

  • Be at least 16 years of age;
  • They must be medically fit to operate machinery;
  • Wear suitable personal protective equipment (PPE): safety helmet, safety boots, reflective ‘hi-viz’ jacket, and gloves.

Site Requirements

The client is required to provide access to the MEWP(s) which the participants are being trained on during this course. The client is also required to provide access to the site for the practical and suitable space for trainer and participants to demonstrate MEWP maneuvers.
